Our Hero: The Independent Bookstore

What a success University Press Week has been! Today is the last day of the blog tour, so make sure to take a look at the final stops.

We would like to take this opportunity to step out of the limelight for a minute and thank one of the biggest supporters of university presses around the world: the independent bookstore. Independent bookstores buy our books. They appreciate scholarly thinking, serious writing, and offer some of the most bibliophilic spaces you could ever hope to find. They fight to stay alive in an industry monopolized by big-box stores—and all for the love of reading. Walking into an independent bookstore is—for hardcore book lovers—like coming home.

Though there are many, many more to speak of, here is a list of a few independent bookstores we know and love. We hope you will take the time to visit the ones nearest you; we know they’d love to see you.

Happy 75th anniversary to the AAUP, and here’s to 75 more!

Add Pages Books on Kensington to your list for Calgary. They are fantastic.
